Not only did 1/30-1/40 work but I started with a tripod and discovered there was more than enough light from these things to shoot handheld ....good luck ob your next attemt John and I'll go try to find your posting

Thanks Larry. The reason I asked is because I tried firework shots recently with only limited success. I went about it very differently, with a small aperture and long exposure of 20 - 30 seconds. The whole display was only about 20 minutes so I didn't actually achieve many shots! I uploaded one on UF, and am waiting for another opportunity, but fireworks don't come along that often in Tarifa...

Hey John...I'd like to say I have vast experience at nighttime fireworks but this was my first try....I took about 200 shots all between 1/30-1/40 and apeture between 2.8-5.6.....Thanks

I love the way you've got the two complete firework "heads". Are these settings what you typically use or do you use slower shutter speeds and/or smaller apertures also?
