My favorite flower, and notoriously difficult to photograph (tulips are also a pain to get just right). Love the peach color on this one. Try a single stem against a uniform cardboard background, and place the flower with the light on one side, then expose for the brightest part! :)

Lovely shot. Nice colours and good dof. The suggestions from others are good for the future.

News reports don't sound to encouraging for your area and it appears that Rita is headed right towards you - please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours that you stay safe - remember things are only things - people can't be replaced! Jan

Beautiful image Janice, the colors are incredible! And thanks for the well wishes, we are now waiting to see what Rita is going to do here in Lafayette, so far lots of rain and a little wind but supposed to get much worse as it gets later! Hopefully I'll be able to get to more of the wonderful images here on UF before we lose power (hope we luck out but would hate to see anyone else get it either!) Maybe we should just drive on to Tucson!! Take care. Darlene

That song really brings back memories. Ellen has a good idea. Also keep the flowers away from the backgroun a little farther so they do not cast a shadow. Don..

Thanks for your comments Ellen, and your suggestions. Yes, I do still have them, and do plan on playing around some more for composition, lighting, etc. Good eye, great thoughts! Jan

I love carnations. For me the flower in the back it too distracting. Do you still have these guys? If so these would be good to practice on as far as composition and DOF. If the one in the back is bigger switch it with the small one. Just my two cents.
