Any day for this kind of pictures B&W or Sepia would be the best. Your selection of B&W or a duetone I would say is certainly better than colour. I agree the background could have been different especially when her hair colour is in that tone. Too sharp: Yes the diaphram was f16.0 because the final enlargement in print was 30 inches by 20 inches. I had no choice except to use f16.0, I hope my explanations are acceptable. A V Bhaskar-India

I did follow your guidelines in a couple of portarits i did. But here to be frank, here are couple of issues i see. 1). Background is not giving a good feel 2). too sharp i woked on b&w one hope you dont mind pls let me know what do you think.
