Hi Dottie amazed that this image is still here and it is still wonderful! I noticed that you replied to a post of mine in the forum, unfortunately I am not a donor right now, would appreciate much if you could copy and paste the thread and email it to me if that isn't too much to ask? I think you have my email, if not it is in my profile! Thanks much and my blessings to you and yours!

Ahhhhh, so this is the one that started it all? (Sorry, I am just now getting caught up) Well, say what ya must, do whayt ya must. I also support the military and I do believe the war is necessary and right. It is a just war. And two of mine have volunteered to give their life to keep me and mine safe. My own children have freely given of their tme to protect their parents... and the rest of the nation. Those of you who are against the war, who are you to belittle the free chaice of my children? And, just because your opinions differe from mine, how dare you assume I am not an intellectual equal... The war is just, the war is right, and my children may give their all one day so you can argue and screech and lather at the mouth... from the safety of never giving anything back to a country from which you take so much. DD, good one. "In Vain" is not a statement, it is a question. And I answer with, "No. Not even if I must bury one of my blood."

Hi Dorthy, I too do love this collage, Since there really is no story about it but its tittled in Vain, I have to assume these are family members, If so you have a great military tradition and should really be proud, I can only hope you have not lost anyone as I have, 1 brother in VN and my cousin in the gulf, I would like to think they are gone for a great cause, but I do somtimes feel it was in vain. As for the UF situation I truly beleive these things happen as It recently did with some drama for me here on UF as some inmature person choose to participate in a name calling incident with my 17 yr old nephew, all of which was his fault Im sure, but by the time I found out all was said and done, and I was implicated as being behind my nephews actions, but if you are like me and take it all with a grain of salt and ignore the ignorant you should be fine. works for me. Take care Dottie...

Please send your email address to me. resqartist@yahoo.com all will be explained in the letter I sent out. Thank you for the comment. These are all family members. The gentleman in the wheelchair being the exception, he is Ron Kovic, author of Born on the Fourth of July. Dottie

HI Dottie. Never ever in vain. Men and women pay the highest price so we may sleep at night. How can we ever repay such a selfless act.

Dottie,
You can include me in the e-mail, please.
I think I "get" what this is about.
But don't forget that we are not operating in a democracy, nor even acquiring services from a provider. We've been "kindly allowed into the sandbox", but if the king of the sand doesn't like your sand castle, you're out.

Horribly tragic, I agree. And this is not a pro or anti war post, although I support the military, this is not a pro military photo either. I will be sending out an email later on today to explain the story behind this. This is about my own personal convictions and strength. If you send me your email address I will send you a copy of the email. I will not post anything on UF, I do not want to cause any problems for anyone. My email address is: resqartist@yahoo.com Thank you for looking & commenting. Dottie

Preempting the "good men idle = flourish of evil" fallacy, let me say that the British Empire was dismantled by the use of satyagraha (non-violent activism). I think that it would be too difficult for a nation that protects the ownership of firearms in the Constitution, to prevent their arms dealers to sell their weaponry, or put pressure on other nations not to sell deadly arsenals to troubled areas of the world.

Dear Dotty, I'll do something that I haven't done before and recycle part of a posting I did yesterday regarding the same issues:
... To quote Albert Einstein - "He who joyfully marches to music rank and file, has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would surely suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder."
This is not the way to solve our problem, even worse OTHER PEOPLE'S problems. We saw what happened in Chile, Guatemala, Panamá and many other places. It's sad, very sad to see our loved ones depart in journeys from which they may never come back; I dread the though of these souls marching at the drums of a pseudo theocracy to fight for the interests of multinational corporations and arms dealers.
I would rather have my father, mother, daughter, son, sister or brother with me (better said "us") than loosing their lives for the "ideals" of a madman.
Sorry, if I'm harsh, just my thoughts.
PEACE!

Ali was blown up by US air-raids in Iraq as a consequence of the invasion. He is currently in England, thank God, getting used to using prostheses: he wants to be a doctor. Ali is fortunate by all accounts - thousands of children have died there at the hands of US bombings - all of them spotlessly innocent.

May I just add that like the men in your collage we must be proud of who we are and what we do and we must do it with our heads held high. Be proud DD. Regards, Ellen
