Thilo,
I don't know about contradictary but, in the case of this one it works perfectly. The man and the bike in the forground are placed just right in the scene. Then the sidewalk leads into the store-front at about the 1/3 mark. Add the store-front and the whole scene gives the intended three dimensional depth effect.

Hi Ian,
like your story idea... interesting to see that there are different approaches for the image. this is probably the best compliment for me.

Hi Andre,
that's why I love the wide angle lenses for street shots. They build up a distance, so that the viewer can jump into the scene. kind of contradictory?

Hi Karen.
oh please, don't excuse yourself for a long answer! Everybody loves to read long answers that have something to say ;-)
I love that "broken idea". you've put together a great story around the scene. thanks a lot!
7/7 for the comment.

Thilo, this is wonderful, and here is the reason why it appeals so much to me: I think most people (even myself) would look at the bicycle and get a close up. I love the way you have included the surroundings and even added a storyline to it. I love the lines on the pavement in the lower right-as if the bicycle had been skid into place-as it appears on its last leg. And here you have the man standing there frozen-as if he didn't know how to walk because he's been relying on this bike. I also love how no one else is around-just a man and his bike-both appearing broken each in a different way. Just excellent, sorry for the long reply-but I just love this image. Well done~

Nice street shot Thilo, I like the choice of lens. It works to draw the eye into the subject matter. Those old bicycles are becoming a kind of reverse status symbol in the metropoliton areas. Andre

Love that Buck Fush poster! The guy seems to be interested yet keeping his distance as if not wanting to appear too interested in the wares on offer, or maybe just incredulous at what has become of his village! The bike adds a great touch, ex bike as you say, and seems somehow perfectly in its place as if it was there since before the freaks moved in (thoughts of man in sorrow). Interesting though now, eh. And what sensational tones and managed high contrast. great job here Thilo. Ian
