I like what you did with the first shot BTW. If it was the only shot I had then I would have followed your suggestion. I bought an Epson 2400 so now I print 13x19s and it is just amazing and so much fun. Thanks for the comments; I really appreciate them.

Thanks for the explanation Sebastian - Photographers very frequently have a reason for doing what they do - that's why I said that I hesitate...but I am trying to learn to look at a shot and figure out what could be done to give it a different look or bring out a different detail. Isn't it exciting when you have shots you are really pleased with printed out and then framed and hung! Kind of a double the pleasure feeling. Jan

Jan,

Thanks so much for the feedback and the comments. I actually meant to do the picture this way. I wanted the butterfly blending with the background; it is printed 19x13 and looks a bit different on paper. This is a set of two going in a bedroom; the first being a close-up (tighter crop).

Very lucky to have caught such a super shot of this butterfly. Focus is nice and tight on this winged beauty and the soft DOF makes a nice background. Not knowing whether or not the butterfly was intended to be the main focus or not, I hesitate (especially being new to photography) to offer a suggestion. Did you consider reducing the color saturation of the background and making it a little darker so that your butterfly and its wonderful colors would really stand out rather than almost being overpowered by the strong colorful background? I would also suggest perhaps a crop that would keep the nice flowing curves of the flowers on the bottom left towards the top right. This would draw the eyes towards and then focus on the butterfly. I have attached a slightly tweaked cropped version of your shot. I am just learning so feedback from you would be most helpful. Jan
