Thanks Colin, well spotted. I just used a plain old blur tool in paint shop pro on this pic. It seemed to give a stronger effect than the gaussian blur tool but it took longer to apply.

Have you used the gaussian technique, as you suggested to me? The result you've got here is impressive, and thanks for the tip. I will practice with that on, "Old six legs"!
