Who says that redbrick is unattractive? Surviving buildings from the Age of Redbrick still have a practical role to play in the architecture of modern British cities. The Birmingham & Midland Institute is still very much in use.
Thanks for commenting, Roger. Keep an eye on the 'Religious Buildings' portfolio I have and I'll try posting some redbrick churches (Gothic or otherwise).
You see very little brick in Japan, Len, because it is notoriously unable to survive earthquakes. Sometimes you see what looks like a brick building but they're decorative tiles usually slapped on the outside of a concrete building to give it a "retro" look. I personally have a soft spot for Victorian brick Gothic churches. Do take a photo if you come across one! (I like this building very much)
