this reminds me of the early pre-motion pictures photographic studies of men and horses running.
your boy reminds me of my second son. he had tunes put in his ears three times before his third birthday. He is now 22 years old, and six foot eight.

Hi Jim. As I said in one of the comments....I only took five shots of him running in this deep grassy channel. Two were facing the wrong way so I mirrored them and blended them all together. Then with some effects to give the colouring I wanted and voila!!

:), congrats on award and I would really like to know how you did this one....It's more then just panning I am assuming it is a composite of some sort. Nice work Judi.
BTW, his gait is not bad or goofy..He looks like a professional racer in the first two frames and a guy crossing the finish line in the last three. There is no doubt in my mind that he is a winner! Not strange at all.. you should be very proud...

No actually not at all. This was a spur of the moment series. I was on my way back to the car and I saw Nikolas running in the channell with the grass background and so I did 5 panning shots. 2 of them were facing the wrong way, so I mirrored them and merged them all. So it is a totally different process. The image that you did is similiar to a process I used on some ghosting images months ago. They are also in my portfolio...I think about January/February!!

He looks very young and I am sure his balance and running style will change and become more orthodox with time. One of my twins used to run with straight arms down his side up until very recently (he's 6) and now it's much more natural.

Enjoyed looking at this as I have thought of doing it for a while using continous mode on my old slr. This must have been difficult to shoot by panning with digital but the result is stunning. Nice work.

Hehehehe...he was actually in the bottom of a large channel like ditch...so unless he wanted to run up the steep sides...he had no choice. I had the camera pointed down on him....which made it a little easier but still jerky with his movements.
