Thanks Bryan. This image was really a spur of the moment thing. I was out there taking the windmill at night photos when I saw a shot and decided to go with the moment. I had no accessories on hand because of the conditions.

Thanks anyway.

hey Judi... i like the expression a lot and have to agree with patrick... really it is the intensity of the gaze that makes you think... as far as the shadow under her nose... it is a wonderful example of butterfly lighting... very complimentary when used in concordance with fill light, perhaps a relector placed beneath her or a fill flash, however, i think that would take away from the intensity of the image... i like it with just the main light source gives the expression depth...

also, a 2.5 second exposure the intense expression is due to agony... :) it would be most difficult to remain sooo still... i like the softness of that though... its nice... a contemplative image no doubt!!

I think it's great, portaits or headshots dosen't necessarily have to be tack sharp always, it just boils down to the concept your after. In this case the soft look compliments the lighting, it kinda has a dreamy type of feel to the composition, I do find an aura of beauty in this. Well done Judi, you ROCK girl.

She does look like she is lost in thinking here! This is wonderful for a time exposed night portrait! Forgive me for not being around regularly again, big wedding saturday working these odd hours and trying to get everything together here! *sigh* :)

Thanks sweetie. That is exactly what I needed to hear on this image. I personally love this image. There is a lot of femininity and emotion within her face. That, to me, is special.

Thanks Armando. I did get your email but havn't had a chance to reply and probably won't for a couple of days. I wouldn't worry too much...no matter where you are on the web your images can be taken. And I mean anywhere!!!!

The title is what brings this shot to life, Judi. I find so often that an image can be enhanced greatly by choosing the right title to set the mood of the viewer. Well done.

Wonderful soft focus, Judi!
This seems to emphasize the expression in her eyes. She seems to be daydreaming, (or nightdreaming, in this case), rather than concentrating.

I can't do portraits, they are an acquired skill, and needing more than the point and shoot I have.
So I'm impressed by those who do.

Memorable and dreamy.

The best part with this shot is her expression. So much could be told from her face.. she might not be unhappy or sad.. but it sure looks so from this shot. I can look at it for a long time just trying to find out what makes her so sad.. what she is thinking of and what i would tell her to make her feel better. A shot that gives something back.. that makes you think about life.

Patrick J

The shadows under the nose and round the eyes bother me a bit but then that is the way it is, the title suits the shot though. not bad Judi.

I didn't say that this shot isn't of your usual standard. I said that you have taken better shots. You may not have suppressed the highlights, but the poor exposure has definately clipped some values. You can definately try something different. That's how we learn.

Another thing I'd do differently is shoot this from a higher view point. Where you've shot this from only highlights the fact that the lady has a double chin (obviously the fact that she's looking up helps hide it).

I really like the portrait very much Judi, the lighting and tones look perfect to me, she really does look lost in thought, not a easy pose to capture. wonderful work....

Petros...I haven't suppressed the highlights. This image was taken outdoors at night. I am sorry it is not my usual standard...but I am trying something different.

Your highlights seem blown out and suppressing them in Photoshop hasn't really helped. The image is a little too soft for my liking... Her expression is dead, so I guess that's what makes her look like she's lost in her thoughts...

I've seen you take better shots than this Judi. Keep posting :-)
