About This is a digital composite of 11 unguided (camera on tripod) time exposures taken during the spectacular Leonids meteor shower, on the morning of November 18, 2001. The result is several dozens of bright colorful meteors seen cutting across star trails. The reddish "smear" near the center is a persistent train of glowing ionization that originated from the very bright meteor next to it. The train slowly drifted across the sky and remained visible for a few minutes before fading away.

The "chunks of skies missing" resulted due to the camera not exposing into those areas.

Photo is combined effort by Michael F Vasseur and Pierre Martin.

Hi Shane,

Yeah, it reminds me of a scene out of a sci-fi war zone.

Thank you so much for the wonderful comments Shane! I really do hope that you get a chance to see a meteor storm. It's by far the best fireworks display anyone could ask for...

Hi Mary,

You are among the first ones to see them displayed this way. I've pulled all these photos out, and in the past couple days I've been busy producing this new composite. I'm glad that you like it!
