Thanks for your comment and advice Neil I really apreciate it. It was nice to get such a long comment and the fact you have taken the time to show me what you mean is much apreciated. You are certainly right as I can see from my edited image. I have only been taking photos for 18 months so any guidance is very welcome! Thanks once again! Lorraine

Lorraine,
The sky depicted here is wonderful, but looking through your portfolio I do wonder if you are missing an opportunity to concentrate the viewer's eyes on a more simpler and effective visual impact.
When we look at things with our eyes we see the impact of an impact almst 180 degrees in front of and 90 degrees above us. The brain can cope with all this and select what we've learned to make us consider the image it sees as exciting, dull, beautiful or ugly.
However when we put a camera in front of us and select just part of that vista, we need to consider what is going to give the most impact when it is converted into a 2D world.
Personally I find simple is best. Simple colours and compositions that don't have parts that compete with each other are the ones that have the biggest impact.
When it comes to reflections which you obviously like judging by your portfolio, there are times when precisely equidistant reflective images are exactly right. But generally, one half is better than the other and if there is a busy bit in between you especially need to think carefully whether the whole is the right thing to show.
There's no exact rights or wrongs, but I find that putting the join between the top and bottom is most pleasing when it is at the the third horizontal position. I've taken the liberty of editing this image as shown below.
I hope you don't mind this long rambling piece, but I see some serious promise in the brief number of images I've seen so far and if I can help I'm pleased to do so.
...And thanks for your comments on one of mine!
Neil

Like Ian, I too am amazed at the lack of appreciation for this image. I think much of it has to do with the fact that many members are based on the other side of the Atlantic and so are tucked up in bed when we post our piccys.
Shame because they are missing out on some superb stuff from you!
Well done again,
Pete

You must be surprised this is sliding though without a comment, so am I! Nicely balanced image with the wonderful sky and reflection, the almost silhouetted angler gives scale and his position is perfect to take the eye out into the scene.
