About The love of my life doing what he loves best.. sailing our yacht. I loved that little smile. Coments welcome I did change the sky as it was very plain almost white. This is actually a pic of the sky I took a little later.

In addition to the technique Andree is telling, I also suggest a "feather" of the selection and I always use the Magnet Lasso as it conforms to the area I am selecting and it's easy to get back to catch the little area that isn't included. I love the smile too! It's one of those "I know something you don't know" looks that just kills me. :)
Great shot - you might try adding a screen layer to bring out his face (eyes) and adjust opacity as needed. I love that you replaced the sky for more interest. Well done.

Hi Alison:

Instead of using the magic wand option I prefer to use the lasso option.

Once the image is selected with the lasso, copy and paste onto a newly created file.

Delete the white canvas to create a transparent background. Using the eraser tool, perfect the edges of the copied image. The transparent background makes it easier to see what you're doing and also can easily be selected with the magic wand.

Continue by viewing the image pixel by pixel to make sure you have an even outline. Then use the magic tool and select the transparent background, inverse the selection, copy and past onto the new image, in this case the sky.

If you still see some uneven edges, use the eraser tool at about 10 or 20% to blend the layer into the new layer. Use a small brush size.

Keep your new file in layers. Flatten only to download for the web.

It takes a little patience but the result is worth it. Good luck... Cheers, Andree

lol I also saw that Andree and after many tries to smooth it in various ways gave up, as just made a mess. Can you maybe tell me how??

Wonderful smile. Technically the merging of the two layers is almost perfect, but I can see some loss of pixels around his hat, head, and right shoulder. Needs to be smooth out... Cheers, Andree
