Well executed Pete, utilizing the boat as a foreground is superb. Like very much the variation in tones of the entire image. Thanks much for your recent comment & in regards to that film used on my shot it's Kodak High Speed Infrared.

Hi A Conrad,
See my response to Barry Wakelin just above this comment ! Coloring was done on the IR photo that was first converted to b&w. Thanks for you appreciation !

Hi Barry,
I actually recolor by hand on the original photo.
I pick colours from original colour pictures of the same location, or (when absent) from another picture (like blue sky colour).
The technique is that i add a new layer per different color, then i change the blending mode to "Color", i start coloring and finally i change opacity to my taste.
Hope this explains a bit ?
Peter

My god I love this! This is soooo beautiful. Does the 717 do IR in color or did you do this in PS. I've thougth about having my 828 converted, but it's just too expensive.

Barry Wakelin   {K:7838} 5/18/2005
Peter, do you take an IR shot and a colour shot and then use the eraser on layers to expose some of the colour image or are you painting colour onto the IR shot? The former seems like the neatest solution but I'm interested in your actual technique.

Barry Wakelin   {K:7838} 5/18/2005
These colour IRs are very attractive. This one has great composition and a magical feel.

Thanks Fadel J !
See my response to Kim Culbert .. actual photo was taken in IR, then the photo is kind of greenish all over ..

  0

Peter De Rycke Peter De Rycke   {K:41212} 5/17/2005
Thanks Kim .. that's part of the trick: i took an IR photo which came out greenish in tone, converted it to B&w, lit up the white parts using curves, and then manually recoloured boat and sky on new layers ..

I wonder why the sky stayed blue, but the water has no colour? Perhaps some touching up was done in PS as well?
I really like the magical way that the trees and grass work in this scene... at first glance it looks like a snowy day until you realize the magic of the IR.

Hello, i found this a very comprehensive and complete overview of what is possible in near- and far-IR, because not all filters work the same way : http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/infrared/
Read this through, and you will already have a better understanding of what it is you want to do, because this area is so rich and diverse..
What camera do you use ?
BTW i use the 720nm filter Hoya R72, a very widely spread and universally usable filter.
Peter

Stunning composition and IR treatment. The best I have seen.

I love how you've left a little corner of the grass in the bottom right part of the composition. Really pulls it together. The blue sky compliments the dark red of the boat.

Thank you so much Peter for commenting on my work. Coming from you it is a great honor.

Am I to understand that it is possible to buy an IR filter? I love to experiment and your work is an inspiration.

Regards, Andree
