Yepp your light metering method is the way to go. The other day I shot a jazz concert. Was the same thing. For me it was kinda funny how easy that was... CB

Thanks Carlheinz - a crop from the top would probably be the thing. Re metering - I measured incident light up front before the performance and simply stuck with this setting for the entire session - on way to simplify life with an manual camera :-)

Her expression is so strong. Love the hands to frame the image. Tough situation for the light metering with the white shirt. A crop to a square? CB

There is the theme of balance. I like it. Mik

grain gives a strong addition to the composition here for me...even if you used it 'only' 'cause of poor light ;)
in this serie I like this one the most...the surrounding hands coming out of the nowhere...
Cheers, Verena

Thanks Kim - You are probably right about shaving a little off the top. The reason for the 3200 ASA was poor light and that I knew I wanted to use a longer lens (200 mm) to get a little closer to the action for most of the shots and not have to worry about super-precise focusing or camera shake. This is a crop (top and bottom) so the grain is further enhanced in this image.

Maybe a bit grainy for my taste... is it because of lighting and motion that you are using the 3200 ISO? I like the way the hands are used as a natural frame around the child in the centre... really puts the focus on them. I wonder about a crop from the top... there seeems to be a lot of empty space up there, that if cropped out would pull more attention on the hands, the child and the mirror shot.
