About This is a ten minute guided (tracking on stars) exposure of the summer Milky Way toward the constellation Cygnus. This happened on a very clear night on August 11 2004. It shows stars much fainter than what the unaided can see, as well as several areas of reddish nebulosity (glowing dust and gas clouds - the birthplace of new stars). I purposely had the lens at almost wide-open setting to make the brightest stars stand out more against the background (and I was also trying my luck at capturing some Perseids meteors ;-) ...but none happened to go by on this shot).

Okay, before I looked at the name, I guessed these were yours. Welcome to UF. Glad you're finally posting.
Wonderful, Pierre. A fantastic presentation. Even for those who are not astronomically inclined, it's very lovely. But, for those who are, they will reognize how marvelous this is.

Hi Taras,

I agree about the meteors and planes... that is all too typical! ;o)

Meteors are however my #1 passion, and I plan to have all those shots up soon.

I was going through your photos. You've done some VERY nice astrophoto work!! Thanks!!

Pierre,

I find that when I try to shoot to capture meteors, they are always shooting past just outside the lens's field of view. But planes are a different story...

You have captured quite a bit of definition in the Milky Way in this region. The North America nebula came out well.

Holy crap Pierre this is an amazing shot!!! I'm sure some people may think you have noise in the camera, not realizing what you have is billions of stars being exposed on the film!
Stunning stunning stunning! I knew you'd have some pretty awesome shots but this is one is beyond expectations! NASA should hire you instead of paying all that money for space telescopes.
My hat goes off to you for a job excellently done! 7+++++
