About Was taken few seconds before it flew away, think it was actually moving its wings in the shot!
I like this one more than the previous image because I can see his eyes!
So what do you all think is it better?

Hello lex!
Heres what I was talking about! Adding contrast to the white background so that it would blind with the background of usefilm!
Is the edited image better?

arwa abdullah   {K:34415} 5/6/2005
hi mark!! thank you my friend for your comment!

but you know honey might attract other insects ants bees, I don?t do too well with bees and wasps! :-|
I was thinking of getting the kind of nets used to capture butterflies, take it keep it in a very cold room to slow it down and wear a heavy jacket then take some pictures

arwa abdullah   {K:34415} 5/6/2005

i could brighten the floor even more and have it blind with the white background of usefilm!!!
thank you lex for your honesty and feedback :)

It is a wonderfull picture but i don;t agree with you about the eye's. I think the colours and composition is wonderfull, like the shadow underneath it. But the previous had a nice black stroke at the top of the image wich i really like! Becose of that stroke the frame fitted the picture better. I think this photo is wonderfull but the frame ain't right, maybe a bit more colourfull frame would work better. But no hard feeling since this is a wonderfull picture overall!! Excellent!

Greets,
Lex.

I like this angle better but the image seems a little softer... but still a great capture. really stands out against the red background...I have not taken too many photos of dragonflies... only have one uploaded and that was taken a long time ago... good work

Dear Arwa, Yes, this one's a very nice shot. I like how the wing and tail go almost from corner to corner diagonally. Very good composition. On that glue idea, I was starting to think maybe honey would work because it would be temporary but may slow him/her down a bit. I'm not sure what Dragonflies eat but I'll take a look on the internet - Yahoo search.Let you know if I find anything. All the best, Mark

Hi,Arwa
Do not bother in capturing the eyes, unless you are looking for classic shot, which you see it hundreds time a day ,need creative to be different from other shots, in fact unusual pose makes it more attractive. Keep in mind that for capturing such type of insect you do not need to come so close, leave it as it is in natural stand still, try to go around it until you get a guaranteed result, different viewpoints, and pick up a focal point to aim at. try to capture what you want without leaving to much space around the subject and need a big crop, only small adjustment, finally do not wary its always first time with more capturing and running after them especially in summer they well get tired and need to come close to the water source and you will do the same too :) here is a different view point and pose, which is very seldom to see. Good luck. Saeed

The angle of this one is better but I like the eyes in the other one more.
Both of them are excellent macro images Arwa, but since you were in the pool, didn't you find something else to capture except the dragon flies ;0)
Take care my friend,
Khaled.

This is really good, but I think I like the other shot just a bit more. Great color contrast and I do like the sense of movement here. Fabulous detail on the legs. :)

Well, they are both good, but I prefer the other, though I like the detail of legs on this one. I have not yet commented on the other so I will see you there.
(you can get dragon fly food at pet store, but buy it in bulk,it is much cheaper:)

Well I also like this one better because most of the body parts are visible and sharp..How close were you when shooting?congrats..very nice work..

Saqib Zulfiqar   {K:2745} 5/5/2005
Just that the using a smaller (possible) aperture will bring the whole dragon fly more into sharp focus range. Generally people use a low aperture that gives maximum DOF at close distance and a hand held flash for light compensating for fast shutters. Not an expert on insect macros but that?s just what I think.

arwa abdullah   {K:34415} 5/5/2005
Thank you for your insightful comment saqib! :)

Could you please tell me what do you mean by improving the DOF and sharpness

  0

Saqib Zulfiqar   {K:2745} 5/5/2005
Very nice macro. Your composition and framing is dead on. The blurred wings also add that action element. The Bright red color against the white background looks very near. Maybe the DOF and sharpness could have been better, but considering the shooting conditions its a great great shot.
Good job.
