Lovely model Dave and a great photograph - the lighting is super.

I wish you a very happy retirement Dave, although your job sounds absolutely wonderful and I can guess it will be a very tough break to do !

Best wishes,
Steve

Hi Brenda, thanks for the comment! I actually retired from my job as an Air Traffic Controller, but I did some flight instruction and pilot testing as a sideline, which I will continue to do part time.
Dave.

Very sharp shot Dave, I see Gary's point regarding the tires, but still I think the black background was very suitable for the plane to stand out, very beautiful work!

Its a totally a diferrent experience after retirement specially if you had a very busy life before. Photography is something which is extremely refreshing. I think we will have some wonderful shots with your S5000 now.

BTW I also own S7000 along with my Nikon D70. Considering the price I think S5000 and S7000 are gems.

Wish you all the best. Kind regards.

Welcome to the club, my friend. I retired in 1993, when I felt the beurocracy was getting the better over medicine. I like the plane and I like even more the way you captured it on the black background.
Thank you, Dave, for your very generous comments on my "Dreaming of Jerusalem" and my "Fantasy in Jerusalem."
Best regards,
Rafi

A bit more modern than my steed. But I often saw them while I was doing my training as the flying school next door had several.

The photo is well taken. Was it using natural light, because I can't think how you would have controlled the flash on the S5000 to get this good an image.

Hi Larry, thanks for the comment! On some of the dark backrounds I'll just take the shot against something dark and the contrast will turn it black, or in other cases if that doesn't work, I will darken the background in my post process program which is called PhotoFiltre.
Dave.

Dave, I find this to be one MAGNIFICENT shot of a model. Miniatures like this are so difficult to photograph. Lighting is so critical as is DOF and getting in close throws perspective haywire, but you've got it all spot on my friend. The black background is super.
Hope you're enjoying retirement. I'm now semi retired and looking forward to doing it full time although the hourly rate is not all that good.

Hi Larry, thanks for your comment! My actual retirment was from my career as an air traffic controller (32 years), and have a sideline of flight instruction and pilot flight testing. I did the flight tests for this flying school, although it has since gone out of business, but the owner is a personal friend. I'll continue to do the pilot testing and instruction for a while at least, to ease into retirement!
Thanks for your interest.
Dave.

Hi Gary, thanks for the comment! Of course with the black backgrund I wanted the white model to stand out, but you're right about the tires. I'll try what you suggested next time I do something like this with a spot light or other highlighting method. Thanks for the suggestion and input.
Dave.

Gary Gantert   {K:2104} 4/22/2005
Dynamic angle.
Nice light on the plane, shows all the detail and lettering.
I personally have a problem with black backgrounds.
They seem so dead.
The tires also get lost which is a shame because they look like they would be nice and shiny.
Even a simple glow in the background to seperate the subject and add depth to the image would enhance the photo.

Well done Dave. The picture invokes the feelings of vacation and enjoyment. Your lighting is exceptional.
