Cheers Tobiah. "drab" could be cutting edge... might say industrial and depressed lo-fi working class.

Ian,

The intent was not low saturation or drab as you've so aptly put it. In fact on my monitor at home, it doesn't look all that bad, here at work however, it does look kinda flat. I'll have to fix that.

The drama of the scene? There really was no specific idea of drama here, it was more or less to take a photo of an individual in a setting where you normally wouldn't see him. 200mmm or further is correct. I have some shots from lower that you may like better, I'll be sure to post them later.

Thanks for the kind words. The lighting is powered by Sunpak 555's They are high powered strobes that are easy to port around and use on location. Although they do use up alot of batteries awfully quick.

Cheers,
Toby

I'm making some assumptions about your intent here, deliberate low conrast drab? The light on his face created interest for me, and I think it's a good portrait (he looks like he could handle a stage well) but not sure the drama of the setting is clear. I wondered about whether this would work better if he was dwarfed by the scene even more (you shot at 200mm?).
Not being a pro I'm probably thinking in cliches but I wonder about desaturating it further.
If it's a straight shot I wonder bout contrast and I do like the lighting Tobiah, in all of these portraits. Glad to see someone helping a band.

Never heard of the band, but I like the shot. I like the selective focus and short depth of feild.
