yes the is always the challenge shooting on the playground the background can be very "busy" with other kids and in the end become distracting in the final photo.
I think I'm a little oversensitive about high angles because I'm pretty tall and used to take my photos from my eye level. Once, when I showed my photos to my brother, he said they all look slightly odd as if someone was standing on a chair. It got me thinking and from there on I was paying more attention to camera hight. I also realized how much I didn't like my own photos of for instance people sitting around a table looking on things on the table. The face is always slightly tilted down. In all those shots the eyes were hardly visible.
I still use high angle shots very much for kids but then they are almost overhead with them facing me. It opens the face and eyes very nicely and the DOF works nice, too. If you look at my portraits you'll see what I mean.
Anyway, I really enjoy your photos.

Thanks David,
This shot came together as I was walking around a playground full of running, playing children. With my camera in my hands I walked about looking for a good candid shot. This girl seemed like the perfect subject and was entirely unaware of the cameras presence. I am of course aware that most subjects (dogs, cats and birds too) are best captured at eye level and kneeled down to compose the shot.
Behind her were 4 or 5 other children busy playing and on the packed brown ground behind her. Not wishing to involve those children in the shot or risk alerting my model to my presence any longer I partially stood and took this shot.
I usually just take the shot that is there not the shot I wish was there.
Regards,
Andrew

Why did you chose the high angle? What was you intention behind it?

Thank you for the many thoughtful comments on this image ? I welcome more!
The camera angle and muted look were by design. I was my intention to create a tone (in Photoshop) that complimented her expression.

beuatiful girl and priceless expression. Yes she will be a strong woman. It is a little low in contrast which is very easy to fix. The high camera angle gaves it the feeling we are looking down on her. Being on eye level is always a good idea.

Andrew, I really like it. Although, I would have saturated it a little.

Hi andrew -
Great portrait - very nice muted colours, maybe a tiny but overexposed on the nose... but good DOF, with good focus on closest eye.
Nice movement with the hair too
...and what an expression :)
Great work
