Alison This is a fantastic shot for one of your first and not an easy subject to start with, and no tripod. Really excellent, Don't know if you use PS - but I cloned in some more of the background and then a bit of colour balance to change it. See if you like Margaret

Thanks Bryan, nope I tried to sharpen it but it didn't look right so left as it is. I see the line now don't know what it is for.

A brilliant photo Alison. I don't know if you sharpened it (line along its beak and head suggests this) using postprocessing software (or in camera?). If you did, you may want to do it a lot less, as it makes it look less natural. I have been told that sharpening should be subtle (I used to oversharpen). All the same, excellent. Just my 2C... Bryan

Beautiful colors with great DOF. I would crop a little closer to get more focus on the bird. Keep up the good work.
