Hi Jeff, your original image was really helpful. I have used it to try to achieve a similar result to yours. However I have noticed you did some liposuction on the stomach area. How did you achieve that?

Luis,
Attached is the original, as you can see there was a considerable amount of photoshopping - what I call "digital liposuction" to get the look I wanted - after all this is suposed to be a fantasy. She was shot against a white seamless paper background so cleaning it up was rather easy. In the future, I will be shooting these against a greenscreen for more flexibility.

Hi Jeff, this is a fantastic picture. I really like the effect you got here. Of course the model and the pose are great, but the post processing makes the image have a lot of charm and retro feel.
How do you get such a white background? Do you use a green sheet or blue sheet and then cut it out in photoshop?
Id be interested in knowing. Thanks for your advice!

Mike, sorry about the delay - been very busy.
First thing si to sharpen the image with USM
Next thing I do is to use noise reduction software at extreem settings to really smooth out the skin and other detail like hair - gives the image a "painted" look. I have neat image - which is very good - but I find it keeps too much detail (it's supposed to, that's why it is good for noise reduction). I find that noiseware works better for this purpose.
Once you drown out the details, make 2 copies of the layer. Turn off the top layer and select the middle layer. In the layers palette, change the blend mode to soft light.
Select the top layer and change the blend mode to Screen.
Play around with the opacity of the top 2 layers until you like what you see. Most of my images doesn't need the top layer with the screen blend, usually the middle soft light layer is enough.
Hope this was clear. Jeff

Thank you Carol. Your honest opinions always mean a lot to me. No it is not the monitor, there is a green cast - I didn't notice it. I am really bad with colors and color correction (yes I am red-green color blind). It did get selected as a showcase image on OMP so I guess they are color blind too.
Love you, Jeff

Jeff, I think you have achieved perfection in the Vargas attempt. However her hair does seem a tad green to me..That could be our computer monitor. Otherwise its georgeous! PERFECT! I love the skin tone and pose and you have such a wonderful way of putting your model at ease to bring out their true essence!

I think you've definately got the Vargos look - the only tiny thing I'd change to complete it - would be the colour of her lipstick - to a more '50's red.
love it!

Jeff, Beautiful shot. Haven't seen much of Alex lately and what a way to bring her back "Vargas" style!!! Melissa would look pretty hot in a shot like this too (well, any shot really). Well done. Sid

You definitely succeeded, without a doubt. The angle and background are perfect, and the model is beautiful and svelte. Her skin is flawless.

I agree with David she looks fake if you were trying to make her look perfect you should have made her lags smaller too. Also her hair is green??? is that what you were going for?

Thank you David. Yes, the purpose was to give the skin a perfect "plastic" look as seen in Antonio Vargas' artwork (Vargas Girls). Mostly, I prefer a natural look also but purpose of the photo dictates the look.

Personally I think she looks like plastic. If that is the effect you were going for, great job :) I'm more into the natural, candid portrait, so this does very little for me.

You definitely succeeded. What a fantastic shot! You did a good job of smoothing her skin in the post-processing - she looks perfect! Colors and clarity are all 100% A++++. A great job!
