very dramatic shot. The contrast is pretty extreme. Bright sky and dark walls without direct light.

I think the photo is really nicely framed and it would be worth getting the contrast working.

Since there is no way to adjust the curves or levels to work both for the sky and castle, one possible way is to combined two different exposures into one photo. If you shoot in raw format you should be able to convert two images from that with one exposed correctly for the sky and one correctly for the dark walls.

Sandwitch them together as layers and paint them together using layer masks or simply erasing parts of the top layer. In this case you would just separate the sky and the rest.

The idea is not new but with the convenience of digital photography and post processing it can be used very easy.

I use basically the same method when doing portraits. I adjust the contrast to work with the general look of the image and do a second layer just for the eyes (to make sure they are not too dark) or salvage blown out highlights.

In extreme situations it might not be enough to take one photo in raw but do an exposure series. Of course this only works for landscapes using a tripod.
