Superb portrait which asks the viewer to take a position. Here in UK, a 'developed' society, the biggest increase in smoking is amongst teenage girls. This seems to be to do with a girl power culture where the girls can match the boys in almost anything, especially boozing and smoking. It's also not a phenomenon unique to working classes it's pervade all strata. We have so much knowledge about the dangers, and also so much choice. Your image seems to me to epitomise the contradictions of a young girl feeling sophisticated yet too young to balance that sense against a knowledge that addiction will follow and in due course perhaps a nasty illness and death. But who cares, that's way in the future, right? And not just bad for girls of course. Well done on producing a provactive image.

Sebastian, This is an interesting and conceptual photograph. The title posed as a question is a great way to stir up more conceptual thought and ideas. I enjoy to see you are using digital, but not overusing digital like I feel many people are doing on this site and in photography in general. I have shot a little digital but generally only shoot darkroom photography. But even in a darkroom there are many techniques to be used similar to those in digital. In your piece here, you have great color tones and values, and you have exposed perfectly for the smoke. Looking through your portfolio there are many interesting works and I am happy to see the simple ideas abstracted a little and some content. Nice work and regards, Curtis
