About When I was a child I loved to walk in the woods. I believed that the trees could see me. They knew I loved them, and I knew they would use their powers to protect me. (It still feels that way.) Antonia

This is dedicated to Augusten Burroughs, author of "Magical Thinking," one of the best books I have ever read.

Thank you to everyone who commented on the first versions of this (color, then BW). There were so many suggestions for this version (Merete Westerdahl, Amna Al Shamsi, Lori Stitt [albeit yours was for sepia/red], Rebecca Raybon, my husband, and finally, Nicole Marcisz). Here's to more "magical thinking."

What a wonderful surprise tonight - thank you from the bottom of my heart for the EC on this. It has since been changed further and become an avatar and business icon signature for me along with my self-given moniker, "The Fairy Whisperer" And hopefully TheFairyWhisperer.com will follow soon. Rachel was 8 yrs. old when this was posted, and she is about to turn 18! She will be so happy too.

So, I hope I use the right words......pufffff
but I guess you understand what I mean....and I think she would like it to be a fairy in a story

and again forgive me for the miss spelled words

-----------------------

I am the fairy of this magic wood
where gnomes and fairy's live
I see them really everywhere
between the bushes and behind the trees

I touch them with my magic stick
so that they delightfully can float
in this magic mysterious wood
where only fairy's and gnomes live

I sprinkle them with glitters
so that the lights will shine
and who knows you will meet me
but I can also disappear very quick

Hello Toni, if I post the images to big, people can have trubles during opening...so thats why I link the bigger file behind the small....so that they can see your wonderful work closer.....I am really in love in your magical images....try to do more like that why, and make a bit more mist and use some candles...your daughter will have fun I can assure you, after she knows that she looks like a real fairy...

Llona, thank you. Use it as big as you'd like. Your English is near perfect! It's amazing that you learned it without a course. I have taught English as a Second Language over the years, and have studied three others and appreciate how difficult it is and how well you are doing. Thank you for translating the poem. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. As for a fairy book, maybe someday I will. I need much more for it. :) Antonia

Hello there

I made 2 poems for it......but I need some time to translate it in English, because I can't find the right words in English......she is such a wonderful magic kid, and you deserve a place on my website......you ever thought about writing a fairy book....you can use your gorgeous images for that, its really awesome and I mean that...I protect my website, so you can't use the right-mouse click for save the image or poem...I use a htmlguard....I do that for the copyright and also for my friend that gave me permission.......I like the bigger shots more...so I put a link in the smaller picture...I hope you agree with that....if not let me know okay.....and also I hope you can follow my English, I am still learning it...without course, just communicate with people around the world......

I send you this same email with the links

Llona, this is my daughter, Rachel, and she is so happy and giddy that you are using the picture of her. She will be so excited to see herself on your web page. Her comment when I told her: "Mom, I thought that the picture was such a silly idea, but I guess it really wasn't after all!" lol -she's 8

Thanks Lara...this is the desaturated, selective color version, due to suggestions received on the saturated rendition posted earlier...it's still there if you are interested. There is also a straight BW, and these have drawn a very diverse range of opinion about which is preferable. Antonia

It's.. astonishing! Beautiful! But the red looks reaaly really red, it's not really a part anymore of the background, maybe a little bit saturation would make it more awhole.

Antonia, this is a magnificent image! I had a look at all three versions (all three are great, to be honest!) but I think this one combines all the best elements! The overall black and white makes for a starkness that brings out the mystery of the woods, then the bright red cape grabs your attention to focus on the little girl, cautiously peeking from behind the tree (yet more mystery there!) You've gotten some great feedback and I think it's pretty much all been said, so I add only that this fantastic image is going into my favorites!

Thanks AJ. It took me a minute to remember your first question. You mean I never responded? I thought I had because it cracked me up when I read it. Yes, this is the only way to dress for a walk in the woods...lol. I was wearing a matching purple dress and cape (noooot)! This way the animals are able to spot us better. All the deer, squirrels, rabbits and robins come out to greet us and talk to us about things. Antonia

aaaaaaah look at the mystery of this one, it's so good. But... i would prefer to keep it all in B&W, that color kind of ruin the excellent mood in the picture a bit for me. It's so good in every way as a shot, no need to do something extra in it - it's so good as it is :-)

You explained things very well, Hugo (instructively and constructively). I don't disagree with any of it. You have crystallized my thinking on this as well. The point that really gelled for me was, .."but by placing too much attention to it [the robe], you removed the viewers' freedom to let the mind roam." Extremely well put. My favorite is the color, but in the end, I embrace them both, because I just like the different feelings I get from each of them.

Hi Toni, despite the artistic freedom as well as the merit the selective colour has in relation to the nature and feel of the theme and regardless of how well it fits with the "magical thinking" atmosphere (as it does!) I still prefer the colour version.

I think the red robe should attract the attention, as it is a vital element of the atmosphere, but by placing too much attention to it, you removed the viewers' freedom to let the mind roam. Imposing in stead of Intriguing, if you see what I mean.

In all fairness, I think if selective colour can be applied functionally (other than masking imperfections, which is clearly not the issue here) this is a beautiful example. Even in the reduction of the viewers freedom to let the mind roam, it's barely crossing the (subjective) line. So it's not a matter of like or dislike, it's liking the orignal more...:)

This shot still has the same embodiment of magic and fairytales as the previous one. I find it intriging to see (and attempting at expressing them) the differences.

Cheers,

Hugo

Looking at all three I could not decide which I liked better. I really like the red dress so I narrowed it down to this and the original. I put them both up and kept fliping back and forth. I still can't decide. I love the beautiful color of the grass but this version draws all the attention to Rachel. I will just have to flip a coin. Great job Toni.
