About
THis was a meeting place for Farmers back in the 1940's and 1950's. The road in front of the store was dirt of course, and there was little Traffic. But Mr Threlkeld sold a lot of General merchandise. The store was closed in the 1960's as the store owners health failed and a "new day" in farming and other work had passed General Merchandise stores by. It is interesting that Mr and Mrs. Threlkeld are buried in a cemetery which was behind where I was standing when taking this photograph. They literally were born, raised as a child, married , worked and died in a small area of this county. (they died in the 1970's) Color film scanned directly.
I too, always enjoy the sense of purpose in your work, Chuck. The stories add depth and character to the images, which are typically captured with a learned technical competence. I grew up in Northern NY, just south of the Quebec border, in a farming community that does not seem that far removed from "the old days". There are plenty of reminders, like the ones you have presented, of days gone bye. I live life by choice, in a much faster lane, today.....but still appreciate the heritage of the communities that I grew up in (ravaged) as a child. Hope the new year finds you happy and healthy, my friend. Best regards, Brad
