Amna this is a great first fly macro.
I have just checked some of the comments you have received back - Jorg is spot on, just up the aperture to F8 and you will get the dof you need. I struggle with my camera as I cannot get much light through at F8. But with you combination of DSLR and a dedicated macro at F2.8 you will capture some stunning macros I promise you :-)
Best wishes, Steve

Great diagonal composition, good clarity and an intrestingly disgusting subject! May she/he rest in peace lol You are full of surprises sis x_x!

Hi Saeed, I do not like using flash too but as I explained to Fadel it was my only choice especially it was getting dark in the garden. There is still another gang of flies in our garden I will try all tips after I return from work Insha'Allah with natural light this time

This is an excellent approach to macro, with more shot you get your own way of macro composed, Al though I like to call this image a close up more than macro! What I can say here, just revised what Peter Houtmeyers wrote, and I do agree with him, the only thing I do not like it personally the flash, but you do need to go for smaller F stops (Larger No).Saeed

Hi Fadel, yes I used flash it was my only choice to have sharp photo, it was getting dark outside (after maghreb prayer)

And the fly's last photo :) Great macro Amna, it feels like you used a flash, I think it would be greater without flash, but regardless a great capture!

Great macro.. great crop and composition.. love the look of that fly! =) Very funny! How do you get them to stay? I mean.. one need to get pretty close to them.. almost inside of the lens.. hehe! I like it! =)

Amna macro and details, Im am a macro pic lover and I have the best teacher that is Peter Houtmeyers (K:584) http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/58154.html he and David McClenaghan http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/35474.html teach me a lot of the macro pics, I'm not to good that they but i'm learning. One of the first important things in photographs as yours is that whenever is possible should take with very good light and the most important to use aperture F8 that gives more depth of field , if you truly are interested in the macro pic, speak with Peter, he is incredibly kind and always willing to teach your picture is very good and when you continue taking macros you will become a macro addict just as Peter told me and he had a lot of reason, hahahaha. congratulations and God blesses you: D

Good one Amna, not bad for your first fly. The sigma 105 macro has a very small aperture up to f45 and so it has an enormous depht of field (DOF). For more depth you need a higher f number,i think about f16 or f22 . BUT.....the downside is that the light decreases by doing this and also the shutterspeed gets slower. The best macro's are taken with enough light or with an additional macro flash. Just keep trying....

Salam amna! Is this your first fly image or all bugs in general?? I like the angel that?s created by the slanting leave and the bright red color of the flys eye! But the mouth looks really strange! Is this the common duban?? Hehehehe i never got a chance to see the dubans mouth The second image is so good too!!!! I've never seen this before! Wonderful first try amna! :) maybe u could use a smaller aperture?

Cool macro which showes perfectly how many colours the fly has. Nice DOF and diagonal made by the grass. Besides that your shot is very good I need to say that i don?t like flyes

Well I guess this is an ugly beast but technically for a first try it is not bad. I remember my first bee photosession lasted the better part of a day at flowers in my garden that had hundreds of bees on it at times, but none was sharp enough to like it. Here I guess the focus seems to be just a little off to the left at the last leg of the fly, but there is still good sharpness for the rest of the fly. With f8 you might have gotten the desired DOF. Regards Jorg
