Peter,
I have to agree with Gary, the bottom could easily be cropped, and yes the leaf is an escape route for the eye. A crop would also bring the main focal point (the people) closer to the third line.

Great perspective. I love the leaves on the top of the frame.
The backlighting and fading to white in the background add depth too.
All I would do is crop a little off the bottom.
That one leaf pointing down takes my eye out of the picture.
