unusual portrait to me,
strong effect, it seems to me the single hairs on the right side are acting like light catcher, leave the face in the grainy effect...
very emotional

Ian thank you for the time spent writing this comment; it is an honour to hear this from you!!! I totally agree with what you say, as to the feeling of this image's unclear attitude. I am often in all kinds of music festivals and I have the chance to see how the people dress up according to the music they like! More and more styles emerge, I even saw doctors and nurses this year in Germany and then I found out there was a popular band dressed this way, so people followed! As a viewer I love to see and take photos of this, of course I have my preferences which tend more towards the return-to-the-romantic-past way of dressing and behaving. Nevertheless, the way someone dresses up has nothing, or almost nothing, to do with the personality, I came to believe. All human beings follow the same patterns of behaviour. A punk can be sensitive and a new-romantic can be cruel! The difference in clothes is purely stylistic most of the times. As you said there is no conventional beauty anymore as pluralism prevails in everything. You do not sound pompous, as I have the same tendency to analyze things and once more I tell you I liked these observing comments of yours! Greetings from Greece!

Certainly an uncompromising image Mary, challenges the viewer to make an interpretation as to her mood, life etc, is she sad and a lost soul, or tough and independant happy in her choices. The mood of the shot appeals to prejudices of what's conventional beauty and contentment, and therefore we should ask ouselves why. I like your portfolio because it gives a unique view of life through your lens and the goth/punk street shots often show conventional human relationships prevailing in what many might find a quirky lifestyle. Am I making sense or just sounding pompous??!!!! Good shot for the project too.
