Its a good protrait and does capture that feeling of 'bygone youth'. (let's use it while we have it!) Its a small detail, but the empty bowl seems to add a lot the the mood. I too thought the dog was real and was wondering how your mother managed to get him to look right at the camera for her first shot!

Good image! I had lots of critiques but since its her first shot with the D70 then I have to say congratulations! I assume u did the editing Patrick? Lovely gray tones ;) maybe u could crop the door at the right and blue the background in PS just a little bit
