Gayle,
The word "fossa" in Portuguese can have two meanings, and I'm not sure if Marcio is doing a play on that.
The first meaning is "cesspit" and I believe this is a cesspit cover/lid.
The second meaning is a bit more colloquial: "depression".
The blur does not appeal to me personally, but I can see that this image is very expressive, as is the norm for Marcio.
I wish I could understand it...

I take this picture in very bad light condition (Exposure time: 10/20 did this white spots ).
certainly i did Bad shot and my english is so bad too :-((
