I use the canon daily actions to convert to b/w. There are a lot of different methods, this one does it automatically so I can't be much help to you...sorry.

Ihave PS Elements too, but unlike you I shoot with a Nikon D70...what does "canon daily actions " do?...can you walk me thru what you do in elements? I just go and "desaturate" the colours then adjust contrast/brightness

Thanks, Peter. I use photoshop elements and something called "canon daily actions" that I downloaded free from somewhere on the internet. Then I just play with levels and contrast to get a look I like. :)

Looks slightly flat to me (lighting-wise), and I don't particularly like that he's centered in a landscape frame, but this kid's face and expression are priceless..and you've captured it well..:)
