Location City -
State -  KOM OMBO
Country - Egypt   Egypt
About This hieroglyphic stone is over 5,000 years old and lies in Kom Ombo city at Sobbek Temple.

It's amazing how You see detailed sharp cut Surgery tools used since that ancient time to efficiently held skull and heart operations as well as seen at left hand side of photograph...
Things haven't changed soooo much over the years!
We are at daylight crowning the Apparatus Era and we're just using lighter material devices and a few of those icons seen above have been adapted to eLectronic gadgets that speeds up the velocity in terms of usage.
Talking about Design matters: pls check out the shape of tools used then...
The Ancient Egyptians also recommended
the usage of 'condoms' made out of sheep skin to prevent sexual related diseases and prevent unwanted pregnancy at that time: Go figure!!!

I worked as a Reporter for steady five years for Medicin & Health Magazine in my country (250,000 releases each published Review) and attended many Surgeries as part of my job to cover a few trends in the field and be able to write it down and explain procedures and help other physicians from other parts of the Country to share knowledge - always having some Medical staff support to check out my writings and help me to get it right... *wink*

I thank Professor Ivo Pitanguy and Dilson Luz (prominent Plastic Surgeons), Lauro Sergio Miranda Martins Pereira (Coronary sp.), Armenio Matheus de Jesus and Paulo Aparecido Cury and many others throughout the Globe for their willingness to make the world a better place and using their knowledge to help the less fortunate Community be also granted with their highly-qualified work, through their Volunteer medical practices once a week the past fifteen years, of which i'm an eye witness!

This photo is dedicated to another very talented UF's Soul: LASZLO ILLES who sent me precious printing material!

Image was scanned from the 10x15 photo using a ViewStation AS6E Artec flatbed.
This image is slightly cropped to best fit UF's requirements.
The colours and levels are otherwise untouched.

WOW...... there's always so much to learn, i like it, Hugo!
Thank YOU for sharing Your view point with me...
if i ever go back to Egypt i might give a try with the DOF as You suggested... i have a couple other shots with such inscriptions, not as contentious as these Medical Tools items, but still worth sharing, i suppose.
i will let You know when they are uploaded...
*wink*

Thank YOU for helping me grow and go UP in the Learning curve!!!
i really enjoyed the Sanskrit inscripions You recently uploaded!
Keep up the great job, Hugo!!!

kind regards,
Regina

Hi Regina, Very intersting and elaborate comment, thanks for sharing! Didn't know that the Egyptians already used items that are still in use.

I do like the contrast in colours between the sky and the tablet, but as the markings in stone are the primary subject, I think you should've focused on that, and left the sky out. There is something to say in favour of shooting these kinds of tablets well aligned (vertically as well as horizontally, but that makes it almost impossible to play with the DOF and to create anything other than a 2D shot. That's why I like to use an extreme camera posittion and a shallow DOF, in order to both capture the essense of the tablet, the texture of the stone and create a bit of tension by using the DOF to obscure the near and further removed inscriptions. The lighting is also quite heavy, which is probably the reason that the colours and tones are quite harsh and saturated. A very intriguing image...

Thanks for your very kind words and pointing this one out to me!

Cheers,

Hugo

Thanks for Your Comment, Paul
Nope, Dear........ books where mostly to help me create Graphics or scan some pictures to best illustrate my work.
...veeery few 'heavy' reading on me, though:
as Reporter, i'm good at interviewing and getting everything i DON'T have the clue into something interesting to readers....... it's why they kept me in the business
*wink*
Dr. Dilson Luz was always helping me with my and lending me books from his or co-worker's to help me get it right.
Veeery nice people worth to mention their talented work of Love and large gestures to society into helping less fortunate souls.
Peace,
Regina

Dearest Opal,
so happy that You enjoy my work, as much as i appreciate Yours!
...when i left the Editting TV job in Media and local News Broadcasting,i had some money on me -- which i happilly completely blew it -- so i took this Lifetime unforgettable Trip.
i am happy i did it, it still makes me smile...
don't know when i will be able to perform such a long-term Orient-Express + Boat cruise + guided Tour abroad, BUT it's worth the try at least once, i feel... i've given my self a great present and stick to the living blissful memories, Dear. it's all that matters:

"Carpe diem", i was told. *sparkle*

Thanks, Ozjan... always enjoy Your Comments - where i learn so much.
Yes, i've felt chills while trying to interpret the signs between the walls at Kom Ombo:
veeeery unique feeling i've never experienced before! ... but to tell You truth, i felt the same overwhelmed way at Karnak.
pls help, if if You can, with Memnon:

Saeed said he was not sure... i read my travel notes and i can remember the highway and the two statues in the midst of it; You may want to ask Your friends that were into Eco-Tourism, perhaps?!? Thanks in advance, my Friend.

Hello Regina, very nice image presented here, with lots of interesting information to make the visual all the more interesting. I am constantly amazed by the incredible culture of the ancient Egyptians. In particular, one philisopher, Hermes Trismegistus, has spawned some of the most important ideals and concepts which account for most of the major religions, and also many scientific lines of thought which are just now being recognized under the "new age"/metaphysics movement. I find this recorded image to be highly inspiritional, and an ode to the genuis of the ancient Egyptian culture.

Regina, this is a very interesting shot..... As you said, the principle is still the same, but in the U.S. the surgeons are driven more by the dollar than anything else.

Love your work........ Bob
