Mr P, I do hope that all your efforts pay off with Sebastian.
The amount of after work does not show, and that is the mark of a successful craftsman. It is a splendid graphic, very eyecatching with simple and successful design. Helped along by a great face.

Well... Everything in life has its purpose. The purpose of this image is that I am bidding for a photography assignment for SEBASTIAN, a hair products company from Wella. This is what their "style" is all about so this is what I am aiming for. Nonetheless, I think the photo has great motion and its whiteness only accentuates it.

The original photo is excellent as well ! Perhaps show a little more of the top few locks of hair.
One problem I see for all of us, is that most people who will look at our work don't have any idea of the difficulty involved in creating the image, nor care, nor should they care maybe. Personally, I critique based on first glance, mass appeal (having only a pair of eyes and little formal arts training that's easy (-:) because I believe that's what most non-photographer types will do. Not to say the technical difficulty or the history of a photo is not important. The eiffel tower is a good example of a piece of art which has all 3 elements (visual appeal, technical mastery, and history). But it's got to look good first and foremost. I can't in good conscience give a good rating to a photo that looks bad but is technically excellent.
I believe I gave it a 5 because, technically it was excellent, you put a lot of effort and thought into it, but while visually stunning I felt the image was just too bright and hurt the eyes.
Hope that helps. I hope I don't come across as a know it all or too harsh. I come from a different world. I've been trained to give it like it is and expect to get it like it is, no matter how old, or skilled or unskilled you are.
Personally, I use the number of times viewed the most.

La única luz que uso es el flash incorporado en la cámara. No es que sea muy potente, pero supongo que cuando estás a unas 8 pulgadas de las gotas, es suficiente.

My feelings exactly Christi. I've been saying it for months. Until people can be responsible for their ratings (have their given rates next to their names), this will keep happening and that is what frustrates me. Especially in my line of photography. THere are way too many prudes out there or people that get offended, but still look, and therefore give you bad ratings... Just one "2" will shatter your good ratings no matter waht and it would be hard to bring it back up even with 4 or 5 "7"...

Well I recognize the talent here and rated it a 7. It is creative and unique and all the things I said in my previous comment. I removed ratings from my portfolio, not because I cannot handle a low honest rating but because someone went through my portfolio methodically one night and gave them all 1's, for their evening entertainment, I suppose. Kind of negates the true value then doesn't it. So how do we really know if an honest rating was given or someone just being an a**. At least now a 1 or a 7 cannot be given without a comment, but doesn't stop the 2's from being delivered by anonymous people.

I tt really bothers me that the rating is just 5.3. I brought ratings back into my photos on a trial basis, to see what happens...
When I rate someone else's work, I try to see the technical value as well as the uniqueness of the piece... When I rate a 7 is because the job is uncomparable to anything I have ever seen before. I could never rate a sunset a 7... All sunsets look alike and they are gonna be there every day.
Now, to me, photos like this one, that demand a lot of skill and time and are impossible to duplicate, even by me, should be seen in a different light and given the proper rating...
I am not saying I deserve a 7, I am just frustrated that people don't appreciate the effort involved in art like this...

No Stace, the 250 steps are meticulosly in sequence. Many layers, overlays, selective color adjustments, blurs, airbrushes, dodging tools, etc, etc, etc....

Not really Christine... The make-up is actually all mine... And the hair is a very strong fan about 15 inches below her (not in front) and a shoot-thru umbrella straight on her face just 2 feet away.
If it was this easy I would have just posted it the way it was. I wanted to give her that Hair-Salon-Poster look and I think I got it right.
The original picture has nothing to do with this.

I've seen the original, so I know what you changed :p 250 steps? really? Unless you are like me and work little bits at a time ;)
I really like this version, the pale shirt as opposed to the red shirt makes her face/expression/eyes stand out much more.. And the movement of her hair is wonderful.

250 steps when all you had to use was 'bedhead hair spiking glue' :-). Spectacular effect, did you use the liquify tool on the hair? You certainly have a way with making a woman's skin appear luminous. Her dark eyes and lashes are magnificent. The pale pink lip gloss is the perfect finishing touch. She obviously follows the first rule of make-up: accentuate the eyes or lips, never both at the same time.
