Hi Jim Quite correct - one should never assume. OK - no, it is not an orchid.
Sorry to hear about the dead Z1. Are you happy with the new Canon? When my fortune comes in (yeah right!) I would definitely go for something that is more adaptable with lenses. That is my only complaint about the Z1, in all other cases it has proofed to be an excellent camera for what I need it for.
Bye Linn

Ah, but that presumes that I know what "Calceolaria" are :-) In any case, your picture is beautiful (as usual :-)
I don't know if you look in on the Z group anymore but my wrist strap broke and my Z ended up in a stream; Minolta declared it unrepairable. I just got a Canon S1 IS(10X optical zoom with image stabalization) to replace it. I still miss my Z. :-(
Keep on shootin' those great pictures,
Jim

Linn,
These are really incredible colors and shapes, and your photograph of them is really spectacular. They almost look like velvet. The orange ones are beautiful as well.
Regards, Anne

Yes, I know the ones you are talking about. We get them here too (in abundance)and they go by the same name (snapdraggon).
Apparently this particular flower is not "exotic" or "new" as my friend recalls her mother's nickname for them, and she remembers them from her childhood.
Still remains "weird and wonderful" though - I am constantly (and pleasantly) surprised by Mother Nature :-)

Linn, they look similar to a plant we call "snap dragon" over here but goodness knows what the latin name is or the African equivalent. They are similar but yours are a lot more colourful :-)

Goeienaand Jeroen :-)
Yes, the Curries are back - or should I say Robert is back He took the Z1 for a drive today and let her experience some fast action! :-) I was planning on photographing my other litter of kittens but he claimed posession before I could :-)
I would love to see your cat images - but please oh please remember to clean the eyes, nose and ears before you shoot - or at least use the clone and/or eraser tool afterwards! :-) People just don't realise how ugly it is to see dirt/crusties on an animal's face :-((
Robert even suggested to me that I carry a small brush with me so that I can dust the flowers before I shoot them

And they will remain that way ... unseen
Maybe UseFilm prohibits the user posting more than one image in the commentary field :-)
Use your imagination - they are out there, and coming to get you!

Thanks for stopping by Steve :-)
I also have never seen these flowers. They came in various colours (but not pink ) and I had a blast shooting them. They are very funny to look at, but I heard that the flowers don't last long.
Here's the orange version.

Ah, the Curries are back online!
Very vibrant colours, Linn.
I see that my Afrikaans is better than my Latin (hope my former Latin teacher isn't watching this one).
BTW, they look more like mushrooms than flowers!

PS: have to post some Cat-ography says my girlfriend, but I want to finish my current series first...I guess you will like that one as well
