About
Spathodia campanulata is a tropical tree (50 ft tall) with these magnificent flowers at least 4-6 inches long. Imagine the tree shedding these flowers one by one to form a red carpet on the forest floor. Although common name is African tulip tree, this is one of my favorite blooming trees of India, that produces these large red flowers for many months in the winter. These are apparently a common sight in Hawaii, Fiji and other tropical islands as well. http://www.lcsd.gov.hk/LEISURE/LP/gc/plantphoto/tree/spca.htm
Oh! Spathodia is also one of my favourites. In Bengali we call it Rudra-Palash. Palash, you must be knowing,is Butea monosperma. Similar colour but Spathodia is more robust in look. Cheers
