hugo, not sure about this one. i can usually pick out your work from a sheet of thumbnails but this one would've gone right by me. i have to agree with some of the other comments: focus is off. more importantly, i don't think i would've composed it this way. i'm not sure if it's the foreground or that i can't see the crouching man's face. maybe shooting this a bit to your left and a bit tighter on the men would've helped.
take care, tom

I like the white sheet and the background detail to frame the two men, but I would have preferred this if there was less foreground detail.

I like the pose of the man in the back and the concentration that he displays while he is working. I think it is a pity that it is less clear what the other man is doing... Maybe a different viewpoint (more to the left) would have revealed more of his activities. Still a nice image with a good atmosphere.

Very good jurnalistic work, well captured moment, I like DOF and composition. Only little sharpness and stronger colors maybe.. anyway it's nice photo: intresting breaking-rules composition, and good situation. Cheers !

Dear Hugo, congrats for this another one register of real life. In some cases, documentary aspects is more relevant than visual details (sharpness, lighting, etc.), what is the case. Sometimes the evaluations must be done about other bases; it's necessary some flexibility and changing the focus of view, I think, to appreciate other aspects. I liked this one very much. Regards.

@Hugo, pretty sure the rating went up, it was 2.(something 4 or so) before my rating and to be honest again I was thinking between 4 and 5
Finally I go for a 5, because beside my complaints it shows real life...and not bad one...
5 + 2.4 is still under 4, so not such a big step ;)
Cheers, Verena

Hi Hugo!!!! First of all, let me thank you for your great work here in UF, your comments and observations are always very useful to the community, many thanks for this. And thanks also for your comment to my last photo, I liked the poinst (above all #5), it would be great to include you in the next venetian meeting ;) I like your reportages from arab world, it?s very important in this hard moment, you show us through your beautiful photos, that there are not much differences with the culture, the beauty, the life of the other peoples of the world and this photo is a part of this documentation. Maybe it lacks a bit of sharpness or DOF, but sometimes I can forgive it when a document is so good and meaningfull ;) Hugs, Max

Tim.

Hi Verena, I appreciate your honesty. I do understand what you mean, and the sharpness IS a bit off.
I also see what you mean by the foreground. It's a large stack of tiles. I included them because it creates some distance in the photo, and I gave it a try, to see if it works. I feel ambiguous about that too.
Weird enough the average rating went up after your comment.... Somebody has not been entirely honest or didn't leave a comment....
Cheers,
Hugo

Hmmmm, sorry, but I don't like this so much, seems to be not sharp enough :-( Or lets say the sharp point is not were I would expect it.
And the front part, whatever it is, is more disturbing for me than helpful for the composition.
Sometimes criticisim is needed, but you know how I mean it :)
Cheers, Verena

On this shot, except the interesting technic on DOF, the subject looks uncommon and nice. This is surely a very special job that not in many places do now!
