"The Divine Shadow of Newton's Eternal Presence" it means that-- the extra set of arms (holding earth and tree) is the divine shadow- the answer that follows our existential questions (Newton represents this); these questions will have an eternal presence, and the divine answers will shadow these questions for all eternity, like the answer is always with us, but we can never grab it. I don't know if this explanation makes sense, but i gave it a shot.
gorgeous painting! some commentary on gravity i presume, but i'd love to hear your specific thoughts behind it. oil paints? i've only very recently started experimenting with paints, so far i'm loving it, but finding it much more difficult than photography.
