Thanks for questions and comment on my photo "Reflection from the rising sun"

As for a "mask" I do not use a separate layer. However, I work from a copy of the original then do the level, contrast/brightness, color adjustment and then filter (sharpen and USM as required). I find that some post processing always enhances my photos since I set the basic exposure for "under exposed". This allows me to work with something, overexposed highlights leave nothing to enhance.

As for the orginal, the exposure was set to bright daylight on the sun. Initial corrections added back the contrast, deep blue and orange/red rays for the sun. My final correction was the reduction in brightness to recreate the dawn. This resulted in the enhancement of the reflection between the sun and the beach.

Original photo is very small, 64K and needs some post processing to correct - color, contast and minimize focus/sharpness issues.

The expression that you captured in the photo holds the key value

Attached file illustrates a few changes using PS Elements contast/brightness, color and USM (unsharp mask) tools. The color correction was the last change...

The subject's facial expression has been retained and enhanced by the change in color.

The expression that you captured in the photo holds the key value

Good luck on future candid photos....

hmm.. personally well it is small is seems quite clear... dont know if it is due to the pixel problems? my camera is a 2 mp cam.. not sure if it is because of that...
