I don't think it feels cramped. I think a tighter crop is probably better as it looks like there are a lot of elements in the background and they might get too overwhelming otherwise. I was going to say I didn't like the bluish hues in the bg, but after thinking about it, I think the combination of those blues and dark greens with the orange creates a nice, almost retro, feel. The dry brush effect is alright, but I feel it would be even better if it were softened up a bit. Once you apply the effect, try going over the edges of objects with either a blur or smudge tool.
I think I forgot to tell you I got a roll of Kodak Ektachrome for Christmas. You'll have to give me some suggestions on when and where to use it.

Interesting look. I think even less the PS filter this would stand out on it's own. The positioning of the flower and bud work well compositionally. Great color!

The strong colors (including the dark background) and the other ps-treatment turned this into a very effective graphical image. I do think it crossed the line into photoart-dom. The crop is tight but it is what you want here IMO.
