Wow, what a pleasure to come home and read all of these comments.
For those who want to see the shot from the other direction, I have a lot of those and I'll have to pick one and post it one of these days. Steve's right, it's the esses at Mid-Ohio (I live in Michigan) and it's one of those places where you can get a variety of shots by moving a bit or pointing in a different direction. There's some unfortunate clutter when you point up the hill with the cars coming at you, with poles and overhead wires, but it's still a decent shot facing the other way. But I agree with Russell: I like the rear view here. Thanks, Russell! You can't tell in a JPEG this size, but you can see the driver reflected in the mirrors.
Michael, yeah, I was very low. They have a couple of photo holes that are right above the track surface. I agree with you about the saturation, too. I can't recall but I might have scanned this in Adobe RGB color space. I should go back and make an sRGB version or at least boost the saturation a tad.
Again, thanks very much to everyone for your comments and suggestions. I really appreciate it!

Well captured, Mark. Were you lying on thetrack, or something? ;)
Good composition, well framed and great angle. I feel, though, that the colours are a little muted. Try increasing the contrast and sturation a little; at the same time use a little of the unsharp mask tool. I feel this would make everything stand out with that powerful feel that belongs to the sport.

I like this view. Front on would be cool also. Sean, this track looks like Mid-Ohio. I think Mark is based there or Michigan.

Mark,
I keep coming back to this shot. I like it! But I disagree with the others about coming or going. I like the shot from the back, kinda gives you the feel that he is the leader of the pack. The angle of the track is great. Really good colors and feel here. Only thing that could have made it better is getting your picture in his mirror lol! Keep it up! Later my friend,
Russ

I love the angle of the road and the compression created by the long lens - I wish the car was coming this way and I could see the driver.

Oops, I'm sorry! I knew Nutmeg's a girl and I still typed "he". Yeah, Tora was in F1. He drove for Tyrell and then for Arrows. Thanks for your comments! :)

Hi Mark, thanks for the comment on Nutmeg (She's a girl, by the way).
This photo is great. Nice and sharp, and good DOF. Did this racer used to be in F1? I think I know his name from somewhere....
