One of the very few occasions I wished I'd had a telephoto lens. Look at the angles of those bows! All precisely the same. That doesn't happen by chance y'know!
It was hard to take, hard to frame. And I'm not too sure it came off, despite the kind comments. I DID catch all the bows at the right instant though, {grin}.
Amitava, this was our school bazaar, run by the PTA. To cope with the numbers they have the ceremony in a tent... the red covered seats are where you queue. The "boom" box was playing traditional Koto music. Nice contrast between trad and mod, as you say.
Antonella, I am sure you will love the 21/4. The el cheapo Bessa "L" is harder to like but such a low cost item it's worth keeping one just for the 21mm lens. (Screw mounts are such a pain to swap.) I'm astonished and delighted that my photos should motivate such a decision...

The day before yesterday I was showing your portfolio to a friend of mine and since we were amazed at the beauty and perfection of your work and we especially loved the photos made with Bessa L,yesterday I went to a photomarket and I bought it! I also bought the Color Skopar 21 mm with it and finally,I was so excited that I also bought an ancient Bessamatic !!! Mirko is right about the difficulty of exposing this right. I would have been tempted to open up another half or even a full stop, even at the risk of overexposing the tent.
I'm curious to see this happening outdoors. Is this common, The typical depiction one sees of the traditional tea ceremony is indoors.
Also, curious, almost inevitable juxtaposition of the traditional and the modern. Is that a "boom box" in the background between the bowing ladies?
This is an hard pic to take... This scene wasn't easy to compose... maybe would be better with more pixels in the left and in the upper side.. but i don't know... the light wasn't too good i think... the bottom side is a little underexposed... but the roof of the tent is near overexposition... Nice work indeed... Regards
