Who has never had one?
very elegant interpretation of that heavy feeling, but your image brings even a smile on my face...elegant in its digital elaboration of grey, deep in the daek black of the ducks and warm in the house that wait for the man, or maybe is saying him good bye...

Karen B. says it perfectly. It is very hard to get past the emotional impact of this image and look at the composition, which is excellent. The textured background adds a great deal of complexity to the image, and maybe the broken heart. One can only wonder what has happended to cause such a broken heart.

Jeezus..... such a strong image. ......
Such an impact that it leaves me reeling, head with circling stars, an effect like a heavy blow.
I find a great deal of symbolism, but cannot stop reeling from the emotional impact long enough to sort it out. All I see (feel) is the broken hole in the heart, longing for warmth and I am turned wrong side out with empathy. Looking at this image, and following the gaze of the figure, seeing the open lips and stoic profile, noticing the wide river between him and the warm house, feeling the distance.... distance that cannot be challenged and cannot ever be breached...... ...then whether by design or by accident there is a two pixel tear on the cheek .................... Jeezus.....(exhale and remember to breath) This photographer is not a taker of pictures, but an artist, a painter of emotion, with depth, clarity, simplicity... which validates the effort. I have no favorite color, and up until now, up until this image.....have had no "favorites" at this site.

There is a need to go beyond the surface to truly understand the broken heart. Why did you choose to make the surface so complicted? Could it be that it was a rather complicated situation? One of those heart brreaks that no one should really get into the details of it...are you just hinting the viewer of its impact?
