About I'm after some advise on this one if anyone is able to give it. Firstly, I've got this problem with the flares. I've removed some in photoshop which encroached further into the picture, I didn't want to ruin it by trying to remove more. I've had this problem with other photographs where the sun was more centralized. I've seen other peoples pictures without flare and wondered how it's done. I did use a lens-hood but it didn't help.
Secondly, what do you think of the composition? I'm not too sure about it and maybe think it would have been better to include the sillhouette of a person standing 2/3 down the slipway. As always, I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks for viewing.

Daniel,

Wonderfull color here with a very nice comp. I do think the bright spot on the left is a bit distracting and could be cropped out without hurting the image.

Hi Daniel!
Congratulations on your editors choice. I think you have a very beautiful picture here. Nice colours and everything. I believe the composition is very good taking into consideration you are only showing part of a landscape. The flares are NOT good; I'll give you that. Try and use the healing brush in photoshop for this effect and while you are "out there" use the hand trick to avoid flares. Other than that try moving yourself to get the same crop, yet the same composition. Hope this helps :)
best of regards and congrats. Morsi

Wow! First of all, I'm amazed this ever made it to 'Editors Choice'. I haden't expected that so, thankyou, it's very encouraging. Secondly, thank you all for your kind comments. I'm suprised and very happy to get such positive comments from people obviously far more advanced and experienced than I am. Here's proof that, if I can do it, anyone can.

Thanks again. When my personal life settles down a bit I will do my best to take a look at everyones work.

Hi Daniel, it is a wonderful shut, an best composition in color.
I like you used the last light on the sea. The result are very warm and intersting colors. Fore my viewing is also a good example is a valuable picture for education. You must know i am a teacher :-)).
For m a small blemish, i wished me more sharpness. But mayby it is a problem from reduced JPG-Files
However it is nevertheless an excellent picture a master picture, congratulation

If you have a possibility please visite my page again for my newest pictures.

What a beautiful picture, Daniel! Regarding your question about the composition, I don't think you should include a (silhouette of a) person, because I think that will be a disturbing and distracting element. I like it the way it is.
Regarding the lens flare I agree with Paul Lester.

Well done! Congrats!

I've looked at several of your photos and you certainly have an eye for geometry in nature and landscapes. The composition is great... for example the 2/3 points are important with the normal 35mm rectangular format and this leads the eye from one in the top right to lower left in a broad way. The choice of subject is also not obvious by any means and shows great insight into what makes a nice photo. Well done.

Nice seascape! I like the stony diagonal! Very nice!!! I have no quarrel with a bit of flare. It adds a touch of drama to some images. Not having a person in the composition makes it a bit more mysterious for me.

Thankyou all for your comments, they're very encouraging.

Paul; You are correct, it was evening. I'll take your suggestion on board and wait a little while next time. Thankyou, it's a great help.

Gerry; I had the slides scanned to CD at 18Mb hi-res by the company that developed them. Actually, although acceptible scans, it takes a little work in Photoshop and Neat Image to make the scans resemble the slides. All my other pictures (not slide pictures) I scanned from prints on my Microtek X6 using Silverfast scanning software then a little magic in photoshop.

Thanks again,

Daniel.

Wonderfull shot. I think the composition is excellent with or without somebody included in it. I think Pauls comments are pretty accurate. What kind of scanner do you use? I am impressed with the sharpness and details.

Daniel. Regarding your question ... It would appear that this shot was taken late in the evening judging by the warm tones as morning shots tend to be a bit cooler in color. Perhaps you could wait for about 5 more minutes to take the shot. In this way the sun would be slightly below the horizon and still cast a nice defuse light upon the stones.

On the other hand, if it is morning then you could arrive a few minutes earlier.

Also, you lens shade might help if you move your position slightly to the left so that you are not pointing so directly into the sun.

Nice photo! I look forward to seeing it again after your next visit.

Regards,

Paul
