Kim, this photo is absolutely magical. And not just because of the surprise of color in the eyes and dress, but because of the poise and delightful quality of the child. Do you intend to pursue more photos of children? I certainly hope so. You are very gifted. Cheers, Leora.

so lovely-I like the subtle hint of gentle colour here and there!

Thanks for the insights Dave and Rob... as for lightening the eyes.. I will definitely try it, but Dave seemed to think that they already overpowered the image and so brightening them would make them stand out even more. No harm in trying though! I have yet to try balancing the scene out with some colour in her cheeks, mainly because I have no faith in my PS skills!!
Thanks to everyone for the comments.

Very well done Kim! I like the subtle coloring on her shirt. Very nice compostion & cute expression. It may be my monitor but the only thing I feel could impact it more was if her eyes were just a little brighter. Great Work!!!
regards, Rob

nice expression and lovely eyes.

The softness was done interntionally. I wanted to express my sadness due to Foe?s death. Only the eyes were to be sharp

So, you move off to Vancouver and start taking baby pictures. Life moves along, doesn't it.
I have to confess that I do prefer the original (color) version. Part of that is not knowing what she normally looks like! After I have seen the color version, the black and white/colorized version looks better than my first impressions. Were I her parent, I would treasure this little snapshot. I like the close crop, and those intense, intelligent, bright blue eyes. Somehow in the black-and-white version the eyes overpower the scene, and with some pink in the cheeks/lips the colors seem more balanced. Cheers.

I am a color kind of guy you might say. But, I believe that your B&W posted has a more dramatic feel to it. Still, BOTH would work for me. It's nice to have both options I guess! Now, about my arm-trunks.....

Thanks Leslie and Vincent... Leslie... I did lighten the eyes a bit already, and I'm wondering if I do it anymore the mother might notice and want them more natural, but I will try out two versions and show her both... let her pick!
Vince... here's the colour version for you... which do you like better?

I have seen soooo many baby shots so it seems. Yet, this one stands out Kim. The angle, the crop and oh yes...that HAT!! Cute little expression too. The B&W works, but how does the colored version?? Is she yours?? Nice one!

I think this is a great composition...I would like just a tiny bit more light on her face...It looks like you don't mind post work by your selective coloring...might i suggest to lighten the eys just a bit to make them stand out...beautiful child

Thank you Kim, Uwe and Nelson for taking a look and adding a comment.
Uwe, the only reason I didn't want to include all of the hat was for fear that I would be widening the area around her too much, taking away the intimate feel of the image. Do you think that it would look better a bit wider?

Since this is my first time at taking pics of children I would appreciate any help... what can I do differently?

Lovely eyes, sweet and gentle smile. Good coloring skill, her deep blue eyes really stand out. Will like to see the hat present in full view.

A sweet one. I would give her (?) a lttle more space on the right side (because of the hat) and just even a little more on the left side, where she (?) is looking to. I tried these kind of pictures during the last years very often, it's is not so easy, isn't it? But nevertheless, a very good photo that you made here.
