About A little history:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The monastery of Mariager was founded in 1446 as the second of the two Birgittine monasteries in Denmark. The foundress of the order was Saint Birgitta of Sweden (1303-73). In principle a Birgittine monastery was a convent with priests and lay brothers attached to it. The 60 women and 25 men lived in strict isolation from one another and the rest of the world in separate parts of the monastery: the men in their buildings south of the church, the women in their buildings north of the church. Saint Birgitta had formulated a higbly detailed set of rules concerning their life together, which was purely spiritual.

The monastery of Mariager was established on the initiative of the nobility of Eastern Jutland, who financed its construction. The church is believed to have been completed around 1480. In 1536 the Protestant Reformation closed all Catholic monasteries in Denmark. Therefore the monastery of Mariager only funetioned as a Birgittine monastery for 90 years. With the Reformation the landed property passed to the Crown as a royal fief. Monks and nuns were allowed to stay on in the buildings for the rest of their lives, as the monastery served a new function as a Protestant home for unmarried ladies of rank until 1585. After this time the status of the churc was changed to that of parish church.

The monastic church of Mariager was rebuilt in 1788-89 and reduced to about one fourth of its original size. The Birgittine church was a three-aisled hall church, 75 metres long and 31 metres wide, and thus one of the biggest church interiors in Denmark.

Interesting point of view. The walls makes a corner that you put in the center of your image. o with this effect you gave the elousion of depth - perspective in the image.
