Such excellent spotting, and fantastic photo of it! It really DOES feel like an eye! Hm... I'm just thinking... maybe it is a carved out eye of some kind of artwork? My first thought though was that it's just spotted on a tree. Well, anyway, it's a fantastic and interesting shot whatever it is!
