I have really studied your entire portfolio and this is the image I want to comment on for beginners but I will visit you again and you can count on it ... that's for sure!
This shot is like a 'Fine Wine' ... 'Marilyn Merlot' ... all the way! Enough said ... Yes/No?
Thanks for sharing and Best of Regards!
P.S. Your name has been added to my 'Sunset Collection Collage Dedication' if you don't mind ... Okay? You are also more than welcome to comment and rate it or any other image in my portfolio because I will trust your particular judgement!
I have to laugh at bit Joe, not at you but what you said about her position. She wanted a side view with the dress being blown, because she didn't like the way her legs looked in a front view ;)
When ever she comes in, she trys to capture shots that are well documented in Marilyn's history, since she does perform an act. The white on white realy wasn't that big of a thing. (2) umbrella's one on each side lighting the background at f11. (1) large multidome softbox camera right, and (1) medium softbox camera left pointing downward.
An easy way to get the correct balance of this type of shot, is to face the B/G, and take a reading, then turn around facing the camera and take another. They should match if you want overall balance.
Both readings were at f11. I had a problem with her moving near one of the lights from time to time, causing that side to get hot.

With regard to the D60, I actually havn't had time to really compare. I've shot some .raw images and they seem to hold up very well when adding USM to them. When I first got the camera 2 weeks ago, I didn't have in camrea sharpening on. Now I do.
I think I'm going to like it. I love having one battery for the D60 -vs- 3 different types for the S1.
You think you have a SLR camera when shooting with it. It's very, very, responsive when pressing the shutter. I also like the 100 iso rating. It's been well documented or talked about the slowness of the AF for this camera, but I haven't shot anything moving fast yet.
Time will tell. I'm looking into buying an L piece of glass for portrait work. I just downloaded a program called "downloader" from breezesys.com (freeware) to pull the images off the camera. I don't like Canon's Software for downloads from the camera.
Phillip, nice, I would have preferred the model to be facing a bit more front. I also note your ability to handle a high-key image, white dress on white background is not easy, the only place you seem to have a problem is the back of the dress seems hot. All in all this is great!
Also, I note that you have switched cameras... the new Canon D60. How do you find this as compared to your S1?
