About Chives from my backyard, opening up. Shot through a window while it was raining. I did some rework on an earlier post - the shot was taken during the same afternoon but the viewpoint was slightly different. I made a different crop without the large dark part in the top, also made the overall toning lighter and slightly warmer. I'd like to hear your opinion...

Hermen,

I remember the first one well I remember liking it but not able to put my finger on what didn't seem right. I honestly think I like this one better - however Fabio is right the mood changes immensely...and he is right about the Japanese poem feel.

PS left comments on the "Where's the Beef?" shot.

Thanks for your comments everybody... Maybe I changed too many things together. I played arould a lot with this one, and if I would have made one change at a time I could easily have made it to a dozen pictures as Fabio already suggested :) The original scan looked very dull so there are a lot of opportunities for 'pixel polishing'.
But...now that I have slept on it for a night I also think the first image is better. Strange, because I wanted to improve on it...The darkness of the image seems to make the flower look lighter and stand out better. The dark shadow in the top I still don't like very much however, it seems to be 'blocking' the flower. OK Fabio, maybe I'll try to make a third one that combines best of both :)

Hate to disagree, especially with Fabio, but I like the second better. It is warmer...

Although this is nice I like the vertical frame best; toning seems equally fine (or even better) in the original one!

to be honest, the first version seems to be better
but this one also works well
...
maybe you should try to make a dozen: only the slightest difference could change the feeling entirely
both versions leave the feeling of being illustrations to a japanese poem
or zen koan
so laconic and decisive in its composition
