Hi Linda, First thing you should know is I am a novice as you are. I started clicking last year. :) Well dear when you find an interesting object get as many photos as possible with different angles & camera settings. You will come up with at least one good photo. I have a flower patch in the garden (not a big one), but it attract lots of insects. So I have lots of objects which I am really interested. (To be frank I do not understand abstract or human photography... ) Have a flower patch for yourself, will help you a lot. And try to find objects. Coz there are lot of interesting objects around us, but the thing is we do not see them. So training our eyes to see those is the best thing. Can you remember what I tell you about guides @ Sinharaja in my "Here I Am" photo? Hope these will help you. You can reach me on "mumbo_s5@yahoo.com". "HAPPY HUNTING" dear friend.

I live in a very hot arid region, very opposite of you. I have little knowledge of Sri-Sanka all thought, I did have a pen friend in a Catholic girls home several years back. It was difficult to communicate because of language barriers so the nuns translated. She has since grown-up and I believe she is helping the nuns with a sewing enterprise. I am keenly interested in how you shoot your photographs as you use the same camera as I. I am a novice at this and when I see such excellent photos I am not shy to ask, " Please tell me, how did you do that?" Thank you for your informative reply and the attached example. Linda

Hi Linda, Seems you've no idea of the Sinharaja rain forest. It is a virgin & a rain forest. So most of the time its raining or cloudy. It has a dens vegetation that very small amount of sun rays reach the floor. And to capture birds you need as much ISO as possible. Have you heard of "Feeding flocks"? These birds form flocks of different kinds of birds when feeding. and they feed on different layers of the forest as well. Some feed on insects on higher layer where my poor 250mm lens can not even think of capturing while some feed on lowest layers. That way they never cross their paths. And it makes them safer both from and bottom and safety in numbers. And they are so fast among branches. Following is a photo of a bird feeding. Its not of good quality as these birds wont give you a second chance. And one has to be really lucky to have a good shot.

Another wonderful photograph Sundeera. :) I noticed you use a high ISO. I am amusing there was poor lighting. Did you also use a flash? Great color and detail. Fascinating subject. Linda
